NEWS: FTC Won't Charge Customers for Talk, Text, Data Usage From Oct. 7-11

Hurricane Matthew wreaked havoc to a large portion of South Carolina, and the five counties FTC serves were part of the area left in shambles in the wake of the storm.

Residents and businesses alike in Clarendon, Lee, Sumter, Williamsburg and lower Florence counties are dealing with considerable property damage as well as power outages among the area’s various power companies.

FTC, which relies on electricity to keep its network functioning, is no exception.

FTC does have, though, backup power such as generators available to limit possible interruptions, and currently 50 percent of its Internet, Voice and Digital TV network is operating on that backup power. As commercial power becomes available, the generators will be moved to other locations until commercial power is restored throughout. About 15 percent of the customers on the FTC network are getting service through commercial power.

FTC’s Wireless network is currently 100 percent operational through a combination of backup and commercial power. To assist during this time of need, FTC Wireless customers will not be charged for talk, text, or data usage from Oct. 7 to Oct. 11

On Monday, FTC was able to open the following retail locations:

Bishopville: 104 East Church Street
Kingstree: 1101 East Main Street
Shaw: 1280 Peach Orchard Road
North Sumter: 631 North Pike West

The following stores are temporarily closed:

Lake City: 235 Ron McNair Boulevard
Johnsonville: 369 South Georgetown Highway
Manning: 2389 Paxville Highway
Wesmark (Sumter): 235 West Wesmark Boulevard.

FTC will open the stores as power becomes available. For the most up-to-date information, log on to  ftc-i.net or go to the FTC Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/FarmersTelephone/
