FTC DONATES TO TOYS FOR TOTS AND HARVEST HOPE FOOD BANK (1.16.12)

Representatives from Farmers Telephone Cooperative (FTC) Inc. today announced that the company collected 450 toys for Toys for Tots and 360 pounds of nonperishable canned food items for Harvest Hope Food Bank in the months of November and December.

In addition to the items collected, FTC donated $350 to Toys for Tots to purchase additional Christmas gifts for area children. The monies raised for the additional donation were generated through social media by FTC customers and fans who liked Christmas photos on the cooperative’s Facebook page, with each “Like” being valued at $1.

FTC also conducted a similar initative for Harvest Hope to help increase the canned food donation. The cans raised through that endeavor – about 140 cans – were part of the 360-pound total.

All the toys and food collected were to be dispersed to in-need residents in the FTC service area. The charity drives were part of FTC’s free Santa portrait opportunities the cooperative hosted at its eight business offices.

“We are very appreciative of the support and giving spirit that FTC customers and Facebook fans displayed during the holiday season to help their neighbors who are in-need,” said Chip Chase, FTC public relations director. “With our business offices having more foot traffic during November and December, it was an excellent time to help make a difference in our community by partnering with Toys for Tots and the Harvest Hope Food Bank. In addition, the outpouring of support through social media was very strong and much appreciated by all involved. We believe in helping the community and strongly encourage everyone to continue to support these fine organizations.”
